Privacy notice

Remember Us collects and uses personal information to provide memorial notices, condolences, directory listings, account access, moderation, verification, support, and security. We aim to keep public remembrance information separate from private operational records.

This notice is written for clarity and should be reviewed by a South African legal professional before full production launch.

Information we collect

Account details such as name, email address, role, login provider, city, province, and account status. Notice submissions may include the deceased person's name, dates, service details, images, public family messages, and submitter context. Directory registrations may include business names, contact details, location, services, and verification information.

Public information

Published notices, public notice cards, public directory profiles, verified badges, service details, business contact details, and approved condolences may be visible to visitors and search engines. Only information intended for public display should be submitted for publication.

Private and restricted information

Submitter IDs, private account metadata, internal moderation fields, admin notes, verification decisions, audit logs, private user records, and sensitive operational records are restricted to authorised staff or server-side processes.

Why we use information

We use information to create and display notices, moderate condolences, verify directory profiles, respond to contact requests, investigate reports, protect the platform from abuse, improve reliability, and maintain audit records for important actions.

Sharing and service providers

We may use trusted service providers for hosting, authentication, storage, analytics, email delivery, security, and advertising. These providers should only process information for the service they provide to Remember Us.

Advertising

Remember Us may use Google AdSense or similar advertising services. Advertising providers may use cookies or similar technologies to show, measure, and protect ads, subject to their own policies and applicable law.

Retention

Public notices and condolences may remain available as memorial records unless removed or hidden through moderation. Account records, reports, logs, and support messages may be retained as needed for legal, safety, fraud-prevention, and operational reasons.

Your choices

You may contact us to ask about access, correction, deletion, or restriction of personal information where applicable. Some public memorial records may require verification before changes are made.

Security

The platform uses Firebase Authentication, server-side validation, protected admin routes, role boundaries, audit logging, and Firestore and Storage rules to reduce unauthorised access. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure.
